Waterside Plants

In the wild, moisture-loving plants are found just a little further away from the edge of the pond, than marginals. They can tolerate conditions from being almost dry for short periods of time, to most surviving the odd period of flooding.

Although moisture-loving plants have to be adaptable in the wild, most can survive in a rich, heavy garden soil that retains moisture well. To thrive long term in the garden, they will require permanently moist, but not waterlogged soil. In most gardens, this will mean creating a special bed specifically for these plants.
