Oxygenating Plants

A vital group of plants for any area of still water!

All green plants produce oxygen during day light hours by a process called photosynthesis. This oxygen is usually released into the air for us to breathe, however the plants we call "oxygenator plants" live and grow below the surface of the water and therefore release their oxygen to the water.

This highly oxygenated water provides:

  • The perfect environment for fish and aquatic animals to live and thrive
  • A balance in the pond that encourages clear water
  • Protection from predators
  • Areas for fish to breed
